Hey guys,
I was just wondering what you guys think about Swearing?
In the Bible it doesnt explicitly say don't swear. Or does it?
I personally don't think it's wrong because God gave us these words to help describe our emotions. But maybe we shouldnt be at a point to initiate these emotions?
Please comment!
Thanks
Josh

My view is that since it's not exactly edifying, it's wrong. Sin? Perhaps, perhaps not. But it's kinda like drinking (legally). Sure, it's not wrong, but if it's a hindrance to others, then I don't think it's a good thing to do.
ReplyDeletehrm... I argued with my brother about this once because he swears from time to time (a bad habit that i think he picked up from living with his roommates). I think swearing is kind of an act of impulse that stems from anger and so for that reason it could be tied in with wrath. "Wrath, when used of man, is the exhibition of an enraged sinful nature and is therefore always inexcusable". But also, I know that when someone curses around me I feel uncomfortable. We aren't always be in the midst of the same type of company, but nobody will ever get offended if we don't curse at all.
ReplyDeleteI used to think these things as well but my mom swears too.
ReplyDeleteShe doesnt mean it with bad intentions and I understand but I don't think it's wrong.
I think it is good when people understand like the drinking, when people understand you are of age and not ready to get piss drunk they see that its ok. (just commenting on Josiah)
Hmm, I've heard a lot of thoughts on swearing, one of the most interesting ones from a friend of mine who's a Platoon Sergeant in the US Army. Most people today use swearing simply to prove something. Think about it: is swearing necessary in normal conversation? Definitely not. Now as a sergeant, my friend often get labeled as someone who swears a lot, which is not the case. He never swears in normal situations and he says he rarely swears in combat/training situations. Some people in the army believe that you use swearing to get people to do something, but when you think about it, it's not really necessary either.
ReplyDeleteSwearing is almost never necessary and is usually a fruit of anger. Our tongues are far deadlier weapons than our hands so we should always guard them.
